I never cared about what I was eating until attending Johnson & Wales University Culinary School in Charlotte, North Carolina. There I gained a new appreciation for food in its natural state, while learning about the darker side of what used to not matter; genetically modified ingredients, artificial colors, flavors and preservatives. This knowledge gave me the tools to replace my favorite foods with more nutritious, tastier versions, made with natural ingredients and no preservatives. When I was unable to find a natural replacement for some of my favorite foods I decided to make them myself. I was able to do so with the knowledge I was gaining in culinary school and with the help of fellow students and professors.. In my last few years of culinary school I spent my spare time developing recipes for my favorite foods; beef jerky, granola/protein bars, loose granola and trail mix. By the time that I graduated from culinary school in 2012 my friends and family began asking to purchase the products that I had been carefully perfecting.
The summer after graduation, I drove up the East Coast (from Georgia to Maine) backpacking, mountain biking, kayaking and seeing friends and family. On this journey the final idea of Frommer’s Natural Foods was born, with the goal of providing natural food options to the many people who appreciate pure unaltered ingredients and foods that can fuel the mind, body and soul. I set up shop on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and started selling my homemade bars, granola and trail mix at the local farmers markets, while testing new recipes. After a few weeks my natural foods were picked up by The Salty Dog Inc. as well as Bess’s Deli and Catering of Hilton Head.
Recently, this website was launched in order to make my products available to people all over America. I also plan on getting my products into more local stores and outfitters in the Low Country. We are new and growing steadily. Please be patient as we further develop our tasty recipes, packaging and get nutritional information and shelf life studies done. We are also researching the process to begin making beef jerky in compliance with the FDA and USDA. Thank you for your interest and continued support.
